COPSES LIGHTS DONATION: The Copse family Glensharrold recently presented cheques to Milford Hospice and the Children’s Ark Unit at UHL. From their Christmas Lights display and sponsorship they raised € 8,628. The family thank all for their continued support for the annual fundraiser.
VICE PRESIDENT: Congratulations and best wishes to Anne Horan Glin and Principal of Carrigkerry N.S., who was named as the new vice president of the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO). She has been a member of the organisation since she began teaching in 1980 and has worked her way upwards to her latest position. From staff representative to a member of the central executive committee. From Ballineen West Cork Anne has represented District 13 which covers Limerick and Kerry on the INTO central executive committee since 2015.
COUNTY ACTION: Grace Doyle Carrigkerry N.S., and Calum Madigan Kilcolman N.S., were on the Limerick primary school teams that played Cork at half-time in the Munster Senior Football quarter final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh Cork on Sunday April 7.
PARISH SECRETARY: The position of parish secretary for Ardagh/Carrigkerry will become vacant from mid May. Previous secretarial experience will be required for the position. SOCCER NEWS: Creeves Celtic lost 3-1 (Eoin Mc Enery) at home to Broadford United in the Desmond Cup quarter final on Sunday April 7. Carrig Celtic defeated Dromore United B 3-1 at home in Division 3 of the Desmond League with goals from Ray Brouder, Eoin King and Brian Foley. Creeves Celtic lost 4-0 away to Broadford United in the division 1 League Cup semi-final.
GREYHOUND RACING: The St Kieran’s nominated dog Feshtys Mo has progressed to the Con and Anne Kirby Memorial semi- final due to be run off on Saturday April 13. St Kieran’s defeated Knockaderry by 2-18 to 1-11 in round 2 of the West/City League at Coolcappa on Saturday April 13.
LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday April 8.The numbers drawn were 3,12,15,18,and there was no winner of the € 17,300 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received € 40 each, Donie Nolan Kilcolman, Mary Mulvihill Athea, Hannah O’Connor Glenastar, Máire Crowley Ardagh, Luke, Niamh Conor, c/o Mackessy’s. DREAM BOOK DONATION: Keeping the Dream Alive was launched on Sunday November 5, 2023, at the Woodlands Hotel Adare. The 528-page book tells the story of Limericks historic All-Ireland hurling success 50 years on from September 2, 1973. The book is dedicated to all the players , selectors supporters’ officers, and officials who kept the dream alive for Limerick hurling in that momentous year of 1973. The net profits from the book 1973 Keeping the Dream Alive are going to the Children’s Ark in University Hospital Limerick and to the Limerick chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Now five months later the 3 authors James Lundon, Liam O’Brien and Niall Deegan have announced a profit of close on € 25,000.
RAMBLING HOUSE: Ita’s Rambling House will be held at the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday April 19, at 8pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend.

ATHEA CLASS CÉILI: The end of season class Céilí will be held in Con Colbert Hall Athea on Saturday April 20, from 9pm. Free admission, raffle and refreshments and music by John Joe and all other dancers are welcome. It’s always a very enjoyable night’s dancing by the banks of the river Gale.

BOOK LAUNCH: Mary Kury from Ardagh will launch her latest book Treasured Memories, a survey of St David’s Graveyard, Churchtown Newcastle West in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Wednesday April 24, at 7.30pm. A lot of work has gone into her survey, and it will be a great addition for readers within the catchment area of the graveyard.

KILCOLMAN ROVERS: A group of club members of the Kilcolman Rovers soccer club are holding a fundraising walk on the Kerry- Limerick Greenway over two days on the May bank holiday weekend. The 70km walk from Fenit to Rathkeale will cover the entire length of the Greenway and raise funds for the club teams. All people who sponsor the members will be entered into a draw for incredible prizes which will be held in Neary’s Bar Ardagh on Sunday May 5, at 9pm. The prizes include Overnight accommodation for two including Breakfast, Dinner, Golf in Mulranny Park Hotel and Mulranny Links Golf Club, Overnight accommodation and dinner for two in Dunraven Arms Hotel Adare, dinner for two in the Mustard Seed Ballingarry, A case of wine with Prosecco white and red wine and many more including a seller’s prize. OLD MILL NEWS: The Old Mill Ladies Gaelic football club are holding their annual family fundraising walk on Sunday May 12 at 10am from the Barnagh Greenway Hub. It is open to all ages of people from the wider community. They are still accepting unwanted clothes which will help raise funds for the running of the club. The clothes can be left in their orange bin beside their club house.
HOLY COMMUNION: The First Holy Communion dates for 2024 have been announced for Coolcappa and Kilcolman parish as follows. On Saturday May 18 at St Kyran’s Church Coolcappa at 10.30am, followed at St Colman’s Church Kilcolman at 12.30pm.
KNOCK PILGRIMAGE: A Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine from the Shannon West Pastoral Unit which includes Coolcappa/ Kilcolman parish will take place on Thursday May 23.
